Dwayne LI`A (LDS) of Waipio valley grandson of the great SAM KALA`INAINA LI`A. Deeply rooted in hawaiian culture and one of the LAST remaining hawaiians that is living and working this land since the reign of King Kamehameha and his people. I was sitting at his residence in the valley yesterday, that overlooks Hi`ilawe falls, talking and listening to him tell stories about the history of waipio valley, hawaiian culture and ancient, never heard before hawaiian legends. I was taken back by the knowledge (mana`o) this man has and how the land (aina) interprets and reinforces these sacred legends. It was a blessing for my son and I to sit and hear the stories of old... just being there, was truly an experience.
